Farewell to The Knitting Factory

Rakim, Black Thought, Keith Murray and more will unite on stage tonight (December 19) at the Knitting Factory, for the storied New York City venue's last hip-hip-hop showcase.

Known for showcasing popular rap acts ranging from Q-Tip to Lord Finesse, the renowned hip-hop venue will close its doors as host Sasha Jenkins leads the one-night only event before the Lower Manhattan spot is finally shut down.

Aiming to give fans a classic hip-hop feel, there will be a special vinyl-only DJ set from Dante Ross, Ge-ology, DJ JS-1, Chairman Mao and more. Making the move from its well-known Manhattan location to Brooklyn's Williamsburg area, the venue hopes to leave a lasting impression with one of hip-hop's most famous pioneers.

"What better way to go out than with Rakim," Knitting Factory talent buyer Peter Agoston told amNewYork. "Brooklyn lives and breathes hip-hop. When we say, 'Is Brooklyn in the house?' Ninety percent of the people are making noise."
