Charli Baltimore Interview (Tell EM Why You Mad)

AHH gave a pretty good interview on Charli B. so big shout out to them. Matter of fact big up to the VP of digital over there at AllHipHop.com Steve Raze. It's interesting to see her take on this Netorious movie. Check it out...

AllHipHop.com: They show in Notorious Biggie building the character of Lil’ Kim. How instrumental was Biggie in the building of Charli Baltimore?

Charli Baltimore: I’ve always been me. My style is my style. I guess that’s why Big liked me. Big would come to me for advice about Kim. He was building an artist. As far as I was concerned, I never really had the chance because Big passed before we were able to capitalize or move forward with The Commission, which was our group. As far as [Kim’s] style is concerned, I don’t think you can make somebody an anything. He definitely asked me my advice like what do you think about Kim and how should I approach this and that. I always offered my input. At the end of the day, she still came out the way she came out.

AllHipHop.com: The VIBE article that recently came out talks about how Kim had a problem with this film; she didn’t like how she was portrayed. In the film, she’s a really sympathetic character because she’s getting thrown around the soundbooth by Big, and she’s crying like, “Why doesn’t he love me?” Another thing that she had a problem with was Naturi Naughton being too dark and how she wanted Christina Milian to portray her because she felt it was more accurate.

Charli Baltimore: Wanted Christina Milian to portray her as Lil’ Kim? I wasn’t aware they were the same complexion [laughs]. Again I didn’t see the movie but last I checked, well I don’t know what color she is right now, but she was brown-skinned. Maybe she’s light-skinned now. I don’t know. People change skin tones in this day and age. I can’t see Christina Milian portraying Lil Kim. That’s not…that seems really weird to me, but you know, to each his own.

Old School Obama (He Was Always Cool)

Big Ups to my homie Sphinx for these pix, it's crazy to see Obama like this, but it's only right we bring the pictures back out!!

Obama Signs Equal-Pay Legislation

Big Up To the NY Times for this one!!!

For all you people who are not up on Obama's progress then you are sleeping. With just the first week of office he is head strong and ridiculously showing that he is the man for the job....

President Obama signed his first bill into law on Thursday, approving equal-pay legislation that he said would “send a clear message that making our economy work means making sure it works for everybody.”

"Mr. Obama was surrounded by a group of beaming lawmakers, most but not all of them Democrats, in the East Room of the White House as he affixed his signature to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, a law named for an Alabama woman who at the end of a 19-year career as a supervisor in a tire factory complained that she had been paid less than men.

After a Supreme Court ruling against her, Congress approved the legislation that expands workers’ rights to sue in this kind of case, relaxing the statute of limitations.

“It is fitting that with the very first bill I sign — the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act — we are upholding one of this nation’s first principles: that we are all created equal and each deserve a chance to pursue our own version of happiness,” the president said.

He said was signing the bill not only in honor of Ms. Ledbetter — who stood behind him, shaking her head and clasping her hands in seeming disbelief — but in honor of his own grandmother, “who worked in a bank all her life, and even after she hit that glass ceiling, kept getting up again” and for his daughters, “because I want them to grow up in a nation that values their contributions, where there are no limits to their dreams.”

Dream and Kanye working On An album Together?

Kanye West Replaces “Notorious” On Top Of The Charts

Let's Talk Album Sales!!!

Kanye West was able to reclaim his position as the biggest rap seller on the charts this week according to the Nielsen SoundScan.

After being debunked as the top hip-hop CD on the Billboard 200 last week by the Notorious soundtrack, Ye is back on top. Landing at the no. 4 position with 39,230 sold this week, 808s & Heartbreak now stands at 1,224,110 units scanned after nine weeks.

Five spots down is the Notorious OST, which features unreleased demos from the late Biggie Smalls as well as new tracks by Jay-Z and Jadakiss. In its second week the compilation sold 28,990 units bringing its overall sales figures to 72,020.

At no. 17 and no. 18 respectively is Akon and T.I. The hip-hop hookman’s third solo release Freedom managed to 21,470 discs this week, making his grand total numbers that much closer to gold status at 421,940. Tip’s Paper Trail sold 20,890 units this cycle, bringing his total to 1,617,710. It was recently announced that the Atlanta rap giant will be performing at the Grammys alongside Justin Timberlake next month as well as Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Ye for a rendition of their hit song, “Swagga Like Us.”

Back to the charts, Weezy fell three spots to no. 26 this week. The rapper-turned-rocker, pushed 15,890 units off the shelves this cycle, making his total that much closer to triple platinum status. The New Orleans rapper’s Tha Carter III now officially sold 2,949,420 copies after 33 weeks. As XXLmag.com previously reported Wayne plans to follow up his last album with an all rock project called Rebirth, set to hit stores on April 7th.

50 Cent’s Manager Affected By Madoff’s Ponzi Scheme

Chris Lighty, 50 Cent’s manager and head of Violator Management, is one of the many victims of Bernard Madoff’s infamous $50 billion Ponzi scheme.

As previously reported, Madoff took large sums of money from several high profile entertainers and executives, but kept the cash for himself rather than investing it as promised. While it has been confirmed that Lighty has indeed been hit from the financial scam, he’s remained mum, according to the New York Post. “Nothing to talk about,” he said when asked to what extent he’s been affected. “It’s not life-threatening. Not worth the ink you would waste.”

Listed among Crain’s 2008 “Forty under 40” list of New York business rising stars, Lighty has helped his Violator artists – which include 50, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J and Diddy - create deals worth more than $200 million. He also recently formed the Brand Asset Group with Warner, to create business opportunities with the label’s roster.

Lighty isn’t the only big name affected by Madoff’s ploy, director Steven Spielberg, actor Kevin Bacon and Dreamworks executive Jeffrey Katzenberg are also among the reported victims.

The Digital Revolution will not be Televised

This site is pretty dope. You can record jam sessions by downloading this software and streaming it live for people to hear. As long as you have a microphone you can record it and post it immediately.

They also have Jam sessions where they invite artists to record in their own studio and sound room, for an interview and performance and audio streamed on their site for people to listen to. It's like an unplugged but only through audio and not video.

The digital world is such a beautiful thing!

Jeezy Responds to O'Riley

As you know O-Riley has been running his mouth again talking bad about rappers, particularly Jeezy and Jay-Z for some comments that were made during their joint inaugural party in DC. Check out Jeezy's response...

“Damn right! I ain’t never ran, nah mean?” Jeezy told XXLMag.com. “At the end of the day, you’re dealing with cats who think that we as young black men don’t know what it is we do. We entrepreneurs, we came from nothing. If you gotta mispronounce my name to try to be funny and you got a Harvard or whatever education you got, then you’re really showing how ignorant you are.”

“If you didn’t hear what the fuck I said, it’s all good, but you didn’t hear all these people crying in New Orleans,” he continued. “You ain’t know bout the [Oscar] Grant kid that got killed in Oakland, you ain’t speaking on that. You ain’t talking about these ladies out here killing these babies, you worried about what I said.”

Lil Wayne's first Single Off Of His Upcoming Album "Rebirth"

I think it's kind of crazy that Lil Wayne decided to come out with a complete rock album. this can either be one of the best moves he made, or it can be complete garbage. Judging by this first single..... not sure what to think.

Who The Hell Is "Murs"? (Walk With Me)

I was flipping through MTV the other day and I saw a little clip of of a rapper performing in a crowd of people. The name of the rapper was names Murs, and I being a real hip hop dude I was surprised that I never heard of him. From the quick glimpse I got of his lyrics, he sounded like he was actually saying something positive. After I saw at least 3 or 4 different mini commercials of him performing in between real world or (Or some other white ass show on MTV) I decided to do some research on homie.

So I downloaded his CD and I must tell you, it's some pretty good music. He is on some extra peaceful shyt, and the beats are pretty dope. He actually has a Will.I.Am. beat on there. Check out these two songs off his latest album, then maybe you'll get a feel of what his album is like...

Kanye Is Not doing bi-sexual porn, Plus Kany Comes out with Louis Vuitton Kicks

Kanye West was on an emotional high as he debuted his new Louis Vuitton shoes during Fashion Week in Paris. That all came crashing down when he found out a fake interview made it’s rounds online stating that he would like to do a bi-sexual porn flick. His response:

"WHY WON’T YOU LET ME BE GREAT!!! I HAD THE TWO GREATEST DAYS OF MY LIFE AND WHEN I GET BACK FROM THE LOUIE SHOW I READ SOME SH*T CLAIMING I SAID I’M DOWN TO DO PORN AND SOME BISEXUAL PORN!!! Lil Kim Comments After She Watches Notorious

Check out Lil Kim's comment after she watched the movie. Is it me or she looks like a plastic surgery gone bad?

"I feel like I was not portrayed how I should have been in this movie. I was in love with BIG and he was in love with me. I was never a JUMP-OFF, I know this and BIG knew this. I wasn’t even able to choose who I wanted to portray me in this movie. I would have never picked Naturi, she doesn’t have a Lil Kim aura at all! She looks nothing like I looked back then. We have NO similarities. Watching her on-screen was so “dreadful” as Simon Cowell would say. She is tasteless and talentless. Never once did she contact me for input or to get a feel of me for the character. A “TRUE” actress would contact the source to be the best they can be in portaying someone. That told me right there, she wasn’t right for the part and not to mention, Naturi has got to be one of THE worst actresses I’ve ever seen and I can’t believe they chose her. I really can’t!

Another thing is, I have been dealing with legal matters as far as them not wanting to pay me and sh*t for this movie".

Aaliyah Movie

It has been reported that Warner Brother Films will be creating the motion picture of the late singer and actress Aaliyah who died in a plane crash in 2001. Aaliyah sold more than 32 million albums worldwide before her career was cut short. The film will be a biopic of the singers life. Bill Condon, director of “DreamGirls” will be directing the film.

“We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez. I can promise Aaliyah fans that this movie will be ten notches higher.”

A source for the film reveals that they “will be going very deep into Aaliyah’s life” and will allow fans to see the “most intimate side of Aaliyah’s legacy.” Sources say the script for the film ‘holds no bars’ and will go as far as touching on the subject of Aaliyah’s highly debated and publicized marriage and annulment to producer R.Kelly.

Slaughterhouse Performance at S.O.B's

Big-up to my people at Culture VI records for hitting me up with this raw footage!

The group slaughterhouse consists of Joe Buddens, Joel Ortiz, Royce da 5'9 and Crooked I. Check out a quick recap of the night...

hat’s the question I was asking myself all night. Imagine playing the All-Star game at Yankee Stadium. Derek Jeter sits on the bench the entire night until, with the game already decided, they put him in for defense in the top of the 9th inning for a cameo appearance. Imagine how the crowd would feel.

Well, that was sort of what happened last night at SOB’s.

Let me start by saying all the emcees killed it when they had the opportunity (although, Crooked couldn’t quite remember his lines on Slaughterhouse and had to be bailed out a few times). The show was good, and any problems that there might have been couldn’t be blamed on the effort of the artists.

Let’s start with what went wrong.

First, the live webcast that was supposed to take place on Almalgam’s website never happened. From what I understand, it wasn’t the fault of the label, but of the venue itself. Internet problems haulted the feed (though it was recorded and will be uploaded onto AlmalgamDigital.com).

That wasn’t the venue’s only problem. I’m not sure who was at fault, but somewhere during the show, the DJ blew out a speaker or his pet hamster chewed up the wires, causing the beats to sound like they were pouring through a pair of giant headphones. Very disappointing, especially for such a hype crew. It got so bad that Joe made them cut off the music and they did Slaughterhouse accapella.

The biggest issue, however, came with the planning. Royce opened the show with a twenty minute set, followed by Joe’s feature set, which lasted an hour or so. At no time was Joell (or Crooked I, but that didn’t bother me) even on stage.

Now, let me paint the picture for you. If you’re not a native New Yorker, then you might not know the significance SOB’s has for Joell. He made his come-up in that venue. He’s been at every open mic there, every event. If he’s Derek Jeter, SOB’s is his Yankee Stadium, more than any other club. He didn’t even get to perform ONE solo song!

Royce, this is nothing personal towards you – we’ve done a track together and I have tremendous respect for you as an artist – but why the hell was he opening up in NEW YORK CITY, at SOB’s??? If any of the remaining three deserved time on the stage, it was Joell. He didn’t get to do Hip-Hop. He didn’t get to do Brooklyn Bullshit. He didn’t get to do Memories. He was left to do half a freestyle (which he cut short, screaming “I wanna do my songs – put my fucking record on!) and his verses on Slaughterhouse and Onslaught. Extremely disappointing.

If you’ve ever seen Joell live at SOB’s, then you know the crowd missed out last night. Sorry Royce, but in NY, at SOB’s, you gotta give those 20 minutes to Joell. And Crooked? On this coast, you’d have to be the last one to deserve solo time. In LA, you can take the spotlight and let the others fight for stage time.

Okay – now on the good stuff. Joe Budden was awesome!!! Despite the crappy sound coming from the speakers, Joe managed to keep the crowd hype – and I swear they sang every single word of every song he performed. Also worth noting is he did NOT perform Pump It Up, though he did mock the song by telling the crowd he was gonna spit his realest shit and then spitting “Pump it up, if you came to get it…….naaaahhh”, before abruptly cutting it off.

More Inauguration Footage

Last night during the Neighborhood Ball, Beyonce was asked how she felt to be a part of history and she cried while revealing how much it meant to her to be there singing. I think everyone, no matter if you were home watching or in DC at the actual inauguration shared the same emotions. Mary J. Blige was crying her eyes out during the ball.

Post Inauguration: Inspired, Focused and Optimistic

I swear the more I see this man talk, the more I think he is Superman. As we all know Obama is now Mr. president and he conducted himself like a true president with no sign of doubt nor nervousness. If you missed his acceptance speech then you should kill yourself...okay that might be a little bit harsh so I just put it up for you guys to view if you haven't yet.

I was able to watch all the festivities, from the inauguration to the balls and performances. It was truly a moment of truth and change for America and what inspired me was seeing all the young kids who had so much inspiration in their eyes. Maybe now the ratio of black people who are successful can triple in size.

I want to thank everyone for rocking with me and my blog thus far, and I can assure you that "09 will be a real big year for Industry's Alternative. Look out for the new fully functional site and the expansion of the blog!

Karrine “Superhead” Steffans gives instructions to giving head

Ladies Ladies! please pay attention to this, she knows what she is talking about!

Here’s what she has to say:

If the slobbing of the knob is a big deal to your hubby, you owe it to him, yourself and to your marriage to at least give it an honest, wholehearted try.

After all, a man will either marry a woman who wants to have sex with him or cheat on his wife with one.

Pick a side, ladies, and if you are determined to give your husband what he wants and needs from you, prepare to prepare the penis and its surrounding areas.

The fact is, penises are not the prettiest or best-smelling things in the world, sometimes, and our men may need a little help with their manscaping, among other things … like not gagging us half to death with the hair down there! Introduce him to the products and rituals that can help you be at ease down south and, soon, he’ll like it too!

Trimming, waxing, wipes, powder and alcohol-free scented products are a great start. Let your mate know that there is nothing feminine about taking extra special care of his special place, but also, please let him know it’s not so special right after he finishes playing ball with the boys! Ugh!

Siagon says "Joe Buddens is finished"

New York rapper Saigon has responded to Joe Budden’s diss record “Letter to Saigon” and announces that the battle is on.

The Brooklyn-bred emcee recently said Budden’s usage of his name in a summer 2008 song was intended to start a rap beef.

“Beef creates attention. The thing about me is I don’t bother nobody but because I’m a ‘conscious’ black rapper, n*ggas pick on me. Joe Budden, I never did anything to this man in my life. Why would you just start up with me.” (Hip Hop Game)

Budden released the hard-hitting diss record “Letter to Saigon” yesterday (January 15).”

“Seem like in every interview, n*ggas wanna mention dude / He took my good punch line and got it misconstrued, ain’t dis you then, but now I will / Just saying how I feel…Got your camera showing off your tiny town house and your girl car / ‘Cause you ain’t a real star / Not even a World Star / The Greatest Story Never Told will be never told / Your mixtapes never sold; Leak the sh*t let it go…I see an insecure n*gga trying to prove something / Getting desperate ‘cause his music don’t move nothing’…” (Amalgam Digital)

Saigon has now reacted to the track.

“The little homosexual n*gga made a diss record, he want me to bite his head off,” he said. “I said I’m not a battle rapper, but I’ll take this razor and run this sh*t across your f*cking adam’s apple. But I’m going to battle this n*gga just to show him that lyrically, he’s not in my league. Never been, never will be.

I’m gonna bite his f*cking head off. He’s not gonna pop up with no more Mood Muziks, no more Padded Rooms, padded bras or whatever this n*gga does. He’s outta here, he’s finished — and I’mma beat him up after that. My word as a man, whenever I see Joe Budden, I’mma beat him up.” (Loud)

The Biggie Movie Was Off The Hook!

That's right I said it! I had the pleasure of seeing "Notorious" movie over the weekend and although there were a bunch of young-bucks in the movie theater I thought the movie was one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. The way they showed Biggie, and even the acting mad it a great believable movie and for many people it filled in some of the missing gaps. If you have not gone to see the movie yet, and you claim you are a big Hip Hop fan, then you need to get your ass to the cinema asap!

We Are One Concert @ The Lincoln Memorial

If you didn't the big concert at the memorial yesterday on TV than you missed out on another epic moment in black history. It was truly amazing to see all those black people right outside the Lincoln Memorial and Obama once again gave out an epic speech to the people. It was starr studded and for the first time in a long time I saw crowds of people all enjoying the same dream that MLK once announced in his famous "I Have A Dream" Speech. I'm truly glad that I was able to witness a Black President in my lifetime, and for this very reason... I will make sure I get Shit-Faced tonight and tomorrow!

For Those of you who missed Obama's Speech...
